Digital Product Passport implementation checklist
Use this checklist to move from regulatory research to an operational DPP project without starting with software procurement too early.
1. Confirm legal scope
- Identify the exact product group and EU legislation
- Confirm whether a binding DPP requirement exists or is still in a working-plan stage
- Identify the economic operator responsible for placing the product on the EU market
2. Build the product-data foundation
- Clean product/model identifiers
- Standardise supplier and facility identifiers
- Link materials, components and compliance evidence
- Assign an owner to each data field
3. Design the passport architecture
- Define model, batch or item level as required
- Select the data carrier and resolver approach
- Separate public and restricted information
- Plan hosting, backup and portability
4. Prepare operations
- Map Registry registration responsibilities
- Test CSV/API exports
- Set version-control and update workflows
- Document how data remains available through the required lifecycle
